Berlin-Grunewald station. Deutsche Bahn Gleis 17 (Platform 17) Deportation Memorial deportation of 50 000 Jews to extermination camps from 1941 to 1945 The Memorial was designed by architects Nicolaus Hirsch, Wolfgang Lorch and Andrea Wandel. The memorial consists of cast iron plates embedded in the railway station. The 186 plates record the date, number of deported Jews and their destination. Part of the memorial is also the vegetation that has spread between the rails: it is a symbol that on this track never again a train will leave the station. The memorial track 17 was inaugurated on January 27, 1998
