A 19th Century view of Little Moreton Hall, aka Old Moreton Hall, a moated half-timbered manor house near Congleton in Cheshire, England. The earliest parts of the house were built for the prosperous Cheshire landowner William Moreton in about 1504–08, and the remainder was constructed by successive generations of the family until about 1610. The fortunes of the Moreton family as supporters of the Royalist cause, declined during the English Civil War. The hall was used to billet Parliamentary soldiers in 1643.
