It forms a handsome lawntree and produces fruit three or four times aslarge as the American variety. Not hardynorth of Philadelphia, Pa. Numbo.—A New Jersey seedling of the Span-ish Chestnut, and claimed to be as hardy asthe American. Japan.—Tree medium sized and decidedlyornamental. It fruits when very young; nutsare much larger than the Spanish and equal toit in flavor. Believed to be a great acquisi-tion. Not hardy north of Philadelphia. ButternutWALNUT——The well known native species;hardy, prolific and valuable; timber in point ofdurability is difficult to excel.
