Engineer doing maintenance checks on the gearbox oil pressure switch in turbine hall of small scale hydro electric power scheme
The site had an existing weir which was modified so that water is diverted into an intake grid chamber and onto a turbine generator The turbine is controlled from a panel and electricity generated is dependant on the amount and flow of water from the river. The generation of this clean electricity will help prevent an annual release of many tonnes of the main greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide, which is a major contibutor to global warming and climate change. A fish ladder was installed to help assist the salmon make their way up river to spawn.
