The front of the Waterpocket Fold in Capitol Reef National Park, Utah.

The front of the Waterpocket Fold in Capitol Reef National Park, Utah. This layer of (mostly) Navajo Sandstone has been bent and folded under itself as it was thrust toward the camera location, up and over younger rock. The sharp-eyed viewer will be able to see the Burr Trail road ascending through this gap that has eroded in the rock over the eons.
