Belfast Meeting and the Society of Friendsin Ireland have sustained a heavy loss by thedeath of Joseph Chandler Marsh on the 8thof March, 1013, in his 71st year. He was born atDorking, Surrey, in 1842, and was educated at aprivate school in Hertford, afterwards serving histime to an architect in Darlington. In 1864 heremoved to Belfast, and in 1876 he marriedArabella S. Walpole, of Queens County, whosurvives him, as do also his entire family offive sons and two daughters. One who knew him as a young man writes :— His devotion to the study of his professionwas unremitting. Although perhaps not soproficient a draughtsman as some others, hepossessed the compensation of a quite remarkableingenuity and activity of mind, qualities whichhe displayed indeed during the whole of hisprofessi
