A C7th-C9th cross-carved stone reused as the lintel over the S chancel door of St Mael and St Sulien's Church, Corwen, Denbighshire, Wales, UK.

A C7th-C9th cross-carved stone reused as the lintel over the S chancel door of St Mael and St Sulien's Church, Corwen, Denbighshire, Wales, UK. It bears an incised linear Latin cross with expanded terminals & a pointed stem like a wooden staff rood. It probably stood upright as a grave marker or religious focus in the churchyard. First recorded as above the church door c. 1696, it was reset in the same position during restorations around 1871 which included adding the Victorian porch. Legend describes the cross as the imprint of the dagger or sword of Owain Glyndwr who lived locally. Since this photo was taken in June 1994, the lower (R) part of the stone has been partly obscured by a fuel tank.
