An old collector at Hoxton once informed us, that the larva of thisInfecl was called the Breeches Caterpillar about fifty years ago;that it was in great requefl by mofl collectors of his time, and thathe deemed himfelf fortunate in finding two fpecimens of it in thecourfe of his life, though he had not reared either. Thofe weretaken on fome Chefnut trees which grew at that time in St. Georgesfields. The late Mr. Bentley found it once on the Beech, and has a fpecimen of it in his cabinet, which he met withhimfelf. Wings deflected, with a prominent tuft or tooth on the pofteriormargin ; colour brown, clouded, with a ferruginous lunar markfurrounded by a white ring in the middle.
