The East Side Electric Railway Co, The only line in Kansas City not under the control of theMetropolitan Street Railway Co. is the East Side Electric Ry.,locally known as the Heim Line, running from the corner ofMain and Fifth Sts. through the East Bottoms for a distance ofthree miles. On a portion of this route an experimental electricline was operated on the Henry system from 18S4 to 1887. butwas not entirely successful. From 1887 to 1892 steam dummieswere run over the line, but these were also abandoned and therails removed owing to lack of patronage. In 1897, Messrs. Joseph J. Heim, M. G. Heim and FerdinandHeim, owners of a large brewery and other property in the EastBottoms, recognizing the influence better transportation facilitieswould have on land values, determined to build a first-class electricline from Market Sq. into the district, and if necessary operate itat a loss until the region
