National Slate Museum: waterwheel built by DeWinton of Caernarfon to power the Victorian workshops of the Dinorwic Quarries Co.


National Slate Museum: the largest waterwheel in mainland Britain, 50ft () diameter, built by DeWinton of Caernarfon to power the Victorian workshops of the Dinorwic Quarry Company. Fed from a nearby waterfall, it ran belt-driven machinery. It was replaced by a smaller Pelton wheel in 1925 but still works. Dinorwic Quarries finally closed down in 1969. Museum run by The National Museums and Galleries of Wales. The Dinorwig Slate Quarry Mountain Landscape is part of The Slate Landscape of Northwest Wales which became the UK's 32nd UNESCO World Heritage Site on 28 July 2021.
