In estimating their compara-tive condition with the different tribes of this nation, they mayfairly be reckoned to rank much higher than any of the othersthat are known on the southern extremity of Africa. Thewide desert Karroo between them and the colony has hithertoprotected them in a considerable degree, though not alto-gether, from the oppression of the Dutch boors, under v/hoselash their brethren less reniote from the colony ha,ve soseverely suffered.
