It was about this time that Kokuryu (j^nlM) begansending tribute to Japan. Diplomatic relations prior to this time betweenJapan and Kokuryu (j^nli^) seem to have been on an equal footing. In 618 the Chinese Empire of Sui (pg) fell, and on its ruins arose theEmpire of Tang (f^). In 64-i Emperor Taitsung (ic-j?) invaded Liaotung(^M) ^^itli tl^e intention of conquering Kokuryu (f^n)^) but was obligedto return without success
