Finding there the poems of Homer, he was soenraptured by their manly and heroic strain that he collectedand transcribed them, and was the first to introduce themfully into Greece. In the meantime Sparta was a prey to civil dissensions,and several deputations were sent to Lycurgus, imploringhim to return and resume the reins of Government.
