Coast Guard Skipper Decorated by Brazilian President. Coast Guard Captain George W. McKean, Skipper of a troop transport in the Atlantic, is presented with the Medal of Military Merit by President Getulio Vargas of Brazil. The award was made by the Brazilian Government for Captain McKean's safe transporting of elements of the Brazilian Army to the European War Theatre. The troops of the South American republic went overseas aboard a Coast Guard-manned troop transport. Captain McKean's home is at 4122 Vincennes Place, New Orleans, LA.
