Praia de Cordoama seen from Torre de Aspa, south west Atlantic coast of Portugal

Juliet’s Log 9th - Thursday Today we left a little earlier to explore the W coast and took a light lunch with us We drove to Vilo da Bispo and went along a rough, dusty track to a view point near a navigational marker on the cliff top called Torre de Aspa. The wild flowers and the view wew amazing and so photogenic. The view was of high cliffs in ochres/ slate/ terracotta colours and sandy beaches with a lot of surf on a very blue/ green sea. The road down to the first beach, Praia do Castelejo, was much more civilized if narrow. The beach was stunning - not as unusual as the two we had been to a couple of days ago further E -but the colours were brilliant and there were rocky outcrops in the sea which made the surf break in several directions quite dramatically There were a handful of surfers but the waves were too big for swimming We sat here for lunch and took loads of photos. On our return we made a detour to a tiny cove on the S coast near Burgau called Cabanas Velhas which was taken up by a very nice restaurant and bar with armchairs and thatched shades. Roger wanted to see if the S coast waters were any warmer as he was itching to go snorkeling - but courage escaped him (better sense, the water was cold!) and we went back to the campsite pool. I didn't swim today as my tummy was a bit upset (I think from the cheap boxed wine we had last night)
