Earth's internal structure. Cutaway artwork of layers from the Earth's crust down to its iron core (depth of 6371 kilometres). The main layers are the crust (dark brown), the mantle (brown), the core–mantle boundary (red), the outer core (liquid, orange) and the inner core (solid, bright yellow). Three other segmented depictions are at upper centre. In the first two, the core-mantle boundary is omitted. At centre, the mantle is divided into the upper and lower mantle. At right, the upper mantle is divided into three regions (olivine, modified spinel, spinel). The lower mantle is divided into perovskite (orange) and post-perovskite (red).
