For about three years and a half of thecontinuance of the school in the Spring Street build-ing, Captain Holmes, a former sea captain, was em-ployed as the regular missionary, and by his zeal andenergy added greatly to the growth of the his death, Mr. Bromley again entered the fieldfor a time, but afterwards became employed in mis-sionary work in Brooklyn. Rev. Dr. Bright was the first superintendent. Heheld the office for nine years. He was followed suc-cessively by Mr. Van Kirk, (apt. Holmes and A. Amelung. Mr. Amelung remained in theollice about six years. Then, about four years ago, J YONKERS. 81 Oliver Phillips, , was elected. The presentSuperintendent is Mr. William H. Belknap. The school remained in the Spring Street huildingfor many years. When the Mount Olivet BaptistChurch building on North Broadway was left by itspeople for their new church on Warburton Avenue,it was taken down, and its materials wereused in the construction of a chapel on NepperhanAvenue for the mission school. A few years agothis building was enlarged to double its first capacity,and now again within a year it has been further andmuch enlarged to meet the continuously growingprosperity of this school. The school is said to bethe largest in the city. It has sixty-seven teachers,besides its officers. The average attendance eachSabbath during the first six months of 1886 was aboutfive hundred scholars. There were seven hundred onthe roll. Collections
