Portrait of Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan (1480-1521). He was the first explorer to circumnavigate the globe and cross the Pacific Ocean, which he did while searching for a westward route to the Moluccas (now Melaka). The bottom of the portrait is a six-line eulogy in Latin. Print made by Dutch artist Crispin van de Passe in 1598.
