The musculus collaris is inserted on the neck in a fiat, oblong cartilage the counterpart of which is the dor- sal mantle cartilage. In some genera (Symplectoteuthis, Grimalditeuthis), the funnel cartilages are so firmly fused that the mantle margin is connected with the funnel at two points.
