The natural limitations of a review of this character prevent anythinglike an exhaustive or complete record of the various enterprises with whichthe Hon. Emerson Carey, of Hutchinson, this county, is connected; neithercan there be set out here in detail the history of the present status of theseindustries or a detailed account of the very considerable improvement andextensive new works that have been brought into operation within the pastfew years. The Carey industries really comprise four distinct industries,each one being magnitudinal in its individual capacity and scope. The saltplants have a capacity of two thousand barrels a day and are the only plantsof the kind in the world equipped with a quadruple-effect vacuum system forthe manufacture of salt. The ice plant has a capacity of eighty-five tons aday, and there is a cold-storage space of over half a million cubic feet. The
