Each immi-grant ship is, on arrival, immediately visitedby the Health Officer and the ImmigrationCommissioners. If the state of health issatisfactory, the Commissioners go on boardand inspect all the arrangements. Theimmigrants are mustered, and inquiriesmade as to comfort, discipline, and generalconduc* of aU on board. The immigrants are asked if they haveany complaints to make, either of thequality or quantity of the provisions andwater supplied to them, and generally ifthey have been comfortable and satisfied onthe voyage. Incase of complaints or bad conduct on thepart either of the officers in charije or ofthe immigrants, a strict inquiry is insti-tuted before the report of the Commissionersis sent in. As soon as the inspection is over, theimmigrants are landed with their luggageand proceed by special train to the deputat Addington, a distance of about eightmiles, where they are comfortably lodged inlarge and well-ventilated apartments, andtreated with the greatest care by the masterand matron. Two days are allowed for washing andmending clothes, &c., but those immigrantswho are going to relations or friends, mayleave immediately their friends come forthem.
