The ancient temple of Poseidon, famous for its sunset, at Cape Sounion near Athens, Attica, Greece


The famed Greek ancient temple of god Poseidon built during the "Golden Age o Pericles" (444 BC) on cape Sounion, is one of the most significant classical monuments and one of the most often visited of the country, accessed along the route on a day trip from Athens (65 kms). Situated near the ancient silver mines of the area and close to Lavrio' s harbor, the site is also popular for a magnificent view and its breathtaking sunsets on the Saronic Gulf
