The ship is serving as the temporary command ship for Seventh Fleet while USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19) is in a scheduled dry dock maintenance period. Besides serving as a temporary command ship, Coronado is also experimenting with a unique manning concept. The crew is made up of civilian mariners from the Military Sealift Command (MSC) and a small group of Sailors, designed to replace the 481 Sailors normally assigned to Coronado. The combined MSC/Navy crew of 263, and some augmentees from the Seventh Fleet flagship Blue Ridge, support the embarked Seventh Fleet staff. Navy photo by Photographer's Mate 1st Class Winston C.
