Should he pass aniron town and fail to alight, a telephone message wouldbe sent: Your man neglected to call at Middlesbrough. The master made a note of all these little messages,and when his man came to report himself and showhis samples, his errors would be pointed out to him anda certain sum docked from his wages. He was some-times told that his services as traveler would not be re-quired again. The fun of the game came next; for, as theman returned from the masters office, the townsdrew up in two rows facing each other, and he had torun the gauntlet to the tune of Newcastle for coal;Middlesbrough for iron, to the accompaniment of playfulblows with handkerchiefs. The game would progress untilall the chorus had taken their turn at being traveler. The class next made out tickets for a game combiningcotton and woolen towns of England, and played it in asimilar way, afterwards making up another game incl
