Lava flow from volcano eruption on La Palma, satellite image


Satellite image, taken on 10th October 2021, showing new lava flow (orange) from the erupting Cumbre Vieja volcano on the Spanish island of La Palma. The volcano started to erupted on 19th of September 2021, causing the destruction of homes, farmland and roads on the western side of the island. This new lava river, with temperatures up to 1400 degrees Celsius, destroyed the remaining buildings left north of the Todoque neighbourhood. Image data obtained by the Copernicus Sentinel-2 mission satellites.
