Species Density Analysis The species density is defined as thenumber of species which occur withinthe grid. The sextagrid (formed fromsix minor grids) was chosen for thespecies-density analysis, because thisgrid size offered the highest resolutionfor which gaps in samphng seemedunlikely to prove significant. Vol. 92 Discussion Littlejohn (1967) has discussed thezoogeography of the Anura of south-eastern AustraHa, particularly withrespect to the patterns and origins ofspecies distributions. Further discus-sion of this type must wait extensionand completion of the grid maps forsouth-eastern Australia. The species-density analysis (Figure2) reflects the probable interactionbetween rainfall, temperature andtopography in influencing anuranspecies density. Rainfall and temperatu
