There are other machines, how-ever, made on a large scale, which perform the functionof drying machines rather than that of mangles. Likethe machines just described, they have large capacity,and where the laundryman has a large number of sheetsand pillow-cases to launder, these machines are recom-mended on account of their simplicity and the littlewear they produce on the goods. One of the machinesalluded to is illustrated in Fig. 96. It is constructedwith a very large perforated drum, which is coveredwith a regular mangle covering, and surrounding this 3:59. — 340 — drum is a series of concave steam-chests Avliich are incontact with the drum, and the surfaces of these steam-chests conform to the circumference of the drum.
