Mozarthaus Sala Terrena, Vienna

The Mozarthaus "Sala Terrena," the oldest concert hall in Vienna. The picture shows the frescoed walls and the stage with music stands and chairs for four performers, as well as several rows of chairs for the audience. In 1781, Mozart stayed for a few weeks in the House of the Teutonic Order of Knights in Vienna in the entourage of his employer, the Archbishop of Salzburg, Hieronymus von Colloredo, as his concertmaster and court organist. Performances took place in the Sala Terrena, a small, jewel-like hall with frescos in the style of the late Venetian Renaissance. The hall has been restored and is again the setting for concerts.
