The Chama River meanders through the Piedra Lumbra basin, reflecting the colors of the winter landscape. Barren cottonwood trees and willows add texture and a bit of color, but the overwhelming feature is a magnificant blue New Mexico sky with billowing clouds. This must be what lured painter Georgia O'Keeffe to the area in the late 1940's, and it became her daily view from her home in Abiquiu, New Mexico after relocation from New York City.
