The Heroon/Mausoleum at Ancient Messene. The Mausoleum stands at the Stadium complex of the city.

The Heroon ( a temple or monument dedicated to a hero) stands at the Stadium sector of the Greek city of Ancient Messene. The mausoleum has four Doric style columns carved out of local limestones and these support a large podium. The mausoleum was built for the Saithidea family, one of the elite families of the ancient city. They held important positions such as High Priests and Governors of the province of Achaia at the time of Roman rule. It was used by the family between the 1st and 3rd centuries AD.
