Photo by Prudence Siebert/Fort Leavenworth Lamp The remains of soldiers who died while serving at Fort Larned, Kan., from 1859-1878 were relocated to the Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery in 1888. Many of the original markers had deteriorated, and for that and other reasons, the deceased were not identified. The names of soldiers who died during that time at Fort Larned whose remains may be buried in the FLNC are listed on a memorial, which was dedicated in a ceremony Sept. 19, 2009, at the Fort Leavenworth, Kan., cemetery.
