It will have a beneficial effect on business and will help the late stock to a great extent. This surely has been a queer season for mums, as they all came in at the same time and fancy stock could not be handled for what it was worth. Eoses are in fine shape, but the sup- ply is limited just now. The cut is smaller than the demand and it is hard to take care of orders satisfactorily, especially on the shorter grades. Kus- sell and Ophelia are exceptionally short in supply and this stock is being cleaned up at fair prices. Carnations have become scarcer dur- ing the last few days and the price has advanced accordingly. The quality is good and the demand is strong, de- spite the large supply of mums. Violets are fine, but the supply is not adequate. The demand is always heavy at this time of year and the receipts insuffi- cient. The stock compares most favor- ably with last year's; in fact, it sur- passes last year's stock. Valley is at a premium, but even at that it is almost impossible to procure good stock. Lilies are about equal to the demand and sell fairly well. The supply of orchids is quite large, but so is the demand, and the entire cut is cleaned up easily at from $ to $9 per dozen.
