The Malaga Gate (Puerta de Malaga), is a National Monument, it was built in the 13th-century and is a tower of the old castle. It is the best known example of Muslim art in the city and is also known as the Hermitage of the Virgin of Espera. It belonged to the walled complex of the Islamic Medina. On the front facade it has a brick horseshoe arch with recessed alfiz, creating the typical niche, so characteristic of Nasrid architecture.
