Leaves in fives, very long. Cones elongate, horizontal, slightly drooping, verti- cillate, straightish, sessile. Scales rhomboidal at the apex, pyramidal, straight, obtuse. In- troduced in 1839, by cones sent to the Hor- ticultural Society of London by Hartweg, which have been exten- sively distributed, and from which many plants have been raised. The cones are about 7 in. long, 1J in. broad at the base, and they termi- nate in a point j the scales are a little elevated, so as to form a small pyramid, with a somewhat promi- nent apex.
