The officeof the contractor stands at this momentupon the site of Masquerays beautifulmonument, which is to typify the LouisianaTerritory. Looking to the southwest acrossa broad basin of water, are the gardens, inthe form of an amphitheatre, 1,500 feetacross, adorned with three very largecascades. At the summit of the slope willbe a massive colonnade, about fifty feethigh, with graceful columns alternatingwith huge square pylons, between whichare fourteen broad spaces, in which fourteenheroic statues, representing the fourteenstates and territories carved from theLouisiana Purchase, will be placed. In thecenter will be a Festival Hall 200 feethigh and covering two acres of ground,and at the ends two beautiful pavilions forrefreshment purposes.
