One shellhit my horse in the head, and in falling he threw7 me, colors andall, quite a number of feet over his head; I immediately caughtanother horse, mounted and had just overtaken the Colonel neara large building on the left when occurred one of the saddestcalamities of the war to me—our brave Colonel Brewer wasshot and mortally wounded. The day was won, we had routed the enemy and cleanedthem out completely. We now felt the need of rest and wentinto camp. Thus ended one of the most eventful days of myarmy 169 ft
