Shimizu Water Festival at Misato Akita Prefecture Japan during Summer
Photo of a small local festival held in summer at Shimizu Village in the town of Misato in Akita Prefecture, Tohoku Japan. The festival is held on the 1st sunday of every August. The festival will start with a taiko performance and rituals. Local men will then carry portable shrine of sake barrels around town, stopping at selected shops/places, where they will perform a ritual of blessing. Along route, they will be splashed with water. Visitors are welcomed to partake in the splashing and for those who wants more, can sign up to be one of the shrine bearer.
