A life guard partisan, Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, dated 1718. Finely worked, ridged blade, completely etched and gilded. The cipher "AM" (Duke August Wilhelm, 1714 - 1731) beneath a ducal coronet above the motto "Parta tueri" and the year, "1718" is on one side, and the great ducal, coat of arms and the scroll, "August Wilhelm Dux Bruns et Luneb." is on the other. A leaping Welf stallion on a finely chiselled background is on both sides. The socket is divided into several sections by balusters and has long side straps, one inscribed, "No. 6". Original carved ,
