The cloth back of this wheel should be cut out, and forthis reason the edge should be first worked with buttonhole stitch. Figure46 shows method of Point de Reprise. This stitch is admirably suited for filling large leaves and portions ofconventional designs. A background for this stitch is first prepared byfilling the space to be worked withthreads placed parallel and crosswisefrom one outline of design to theother, to form triangular the needle with rather a longthread, and on each triangle formedby the laced threads weave over andunder, from one side of the triangle tothe other, until the base of triangle isreached, then pass the thread on thewrong side to the next triangle, andrepeat. Figure 47 gives an excellent fig. 47. idea of the mode of working, as well as the result when completed. Thisstitch, as well as the rosette and spider wheel, look best on heavy materialand done with art cord.
