The USS Essex (LHD 2) sits docked at the White Beach port in Okinawa, Japan. While its crew gets some well-deserved liberty time after being on board for two weeks for the Amphibious Ready Group Exercise (ARGEX) and Special Operations Capable Exercise (SOCEX). The US Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit spent two months participating in various training operations on and off the coast of Okinawa, Japan, Sasebo, Japan, Pohang, Korea, and Hong Kong, China.
