View looking out to sea along the old cobbled street leading to Bayards Cove Fort, Dartmouth, Devon. There is a row of quaint old terraced cottages along this river front foot path which have wonderful views across the River Dart and of the lower ferry. Bayard's Cove fort was built at the narrowest part of the River Dart estuary in 1534 to protect the busy port. At ground level are a series of gun ports with commanding views which can be explored today. There would have been steps to an upper walk way, a view point and location to fire muskets at potential marauders.
