In fact, leg troubles that are directly traceable to their origin in foottroubles sometimes manifest themselves in the leg before theygive the pain signals in .the foot. Occasionally they nevercause pain in the foot. It has even been found that certainafflictions of the .spine have their commencement in disordersof the feet. One of the features of .the normal foot that Nature prob-ably intended not to be interfered with is that the inner meta-tarsal and the two other connecting shafts of bone that formthe structure of the great toe are a practically perfect exten-sion of the line running from the center of the heel to thepoint where that metatarsal joins with the instep. Therefore, the inner side of the normal foot is said to be straight. Undoubtedly, Natures intent in this was to give addedsecurity to the tripod formation and added spread to that 15. side of the foots Improper shapes of civilianshoes have done more to bend the bones but of that straightline, pushing them inward toward the other toes, than allother causes put together. Sortie; degree of deviation from thestraight inside line exists in the feet of almost every adult.
