When the Incaapproached, the priest began to address him \\itha long speech, and told him that he must pay tribute 80 American Explorers to the Spanish king, must believe in Christ, andmust give up the worship of idols. The Inca did not know what to make of thestrange words and manners of the priest. When,therefore, a Bible was handed to him, he threw itupon the ground. As soon as he did this, at agiven signal the Spanish soldiers rushed from thehouses, seized the Inca, and for two hours cut downhis followers. In the struggle the Inca was handled roughly,and finally made a prisoner. With their leader inthe hands of the Spaniards, the poor natives werebewildered and helpless. PIZARRO PUTS THE INCA TO DEATH The Inca was told that he must submit tothe King of Spain. He was confined in a roomtwenty-two feet long and seventeen feet wide.
