The Mardi Grass parade is the main event of the Mardi Grass festival in the town of Nimbin in northern New South Wales, Australia. The festival was first held in 1993 after aggressive action by police in an attempt to contain marijuana use in the area. It is intended to hold a Mardi Grass every year until prohibition ends. During Mardi Grass, information is circulated about the use and misuse, perception and misperception of marijuana use.
