Travertine terrace waterfall. This waterfall is cascading over a travertine terrace in Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia. Named Galovacki buk, this waterfall is located on the Upper Lakes. Like the other waterfalls here, it was formed by deposits of travertine, which dam the calcium mineral-rich water of the river. Travertine is calcite or aragonite (both a variety of limestone). It precipitates from hot spring water saturated with calcium carbonate. Photographed in August.
