Countess Maria Nikolayevna Volkonskaya, Irkutsk, Siberia, Russia, 1845. Maria Volkonskaya (1805-1863) was the wife of Count Sergey Volkonsky, a Russian general exiled to Siberia for his part in the Decembrist revolt of 1825. She was known in Irkutsk as the 'Princess of Siberia'
