A sea of flowers at the spot where Theo Van Gogh was murdered earlier the same day on the 2nd of November 2004.


On the morning of 2 November 2004 the controversial Dutch film director Theo Van Gogh was murdered by an Islamic extremist as a result of his outspoken views on Islam and his film "Submission". Many Amsterdammers congregated to the spot of the murder and after a few hours the corner of Linnaeusstraat and Tweede Oosterparkstraat was covered in a sea of flowers, poems and gifts.
