Admiral Plumridge was appointed to command the squadron of paddle-steamers attached to the Baltic Fleet [Crimean War], and has his flag in the Leopard, whose services at Bomarsund received this high encomium from Vice- Admiral Sir C. Napier, Commander-in-Chief: "I owe much to Admiral Plumridge for the manner in which he placed his squadron to prevent reinforcements being thrown in;
