The mate of thisgear is keyed to the shaft 5, and as it turns the arm 6is moved to and fro and, with it, theslide 1. This slide moves back and forth on thecam arm 7 which is raised and loweredat the proper moment by the rotatingcam 8. As the cam arm is raised it liftsthe arm 9 and, with it, the plunger 10of the pump. The latter is held downagainst the arm 9 by the helical springas shown. With the governor balls retracted theslide is directly beneath the center ofthe pump plunger and the latter isgiven its maximum
