The J. W. Pax-son Company, 1021 North Delawareavenue, Philadelphia, manufactureslb, wire broom illustrated herewithand makes the claim that thisbroom is an indispensable part ofsuch an outfit. The broom, asshown, is made of such a width asto lit into the groove on frogs andcurves and the wire is of sufficientstiffness to remove any ordinaryobstruction even when solidlypacked. The corn broom will notdo this; hence the claim for theindispensability of the wire broomas made by the manufacturer. It is of interest to note that theuse of the wire broom for this pur-pose w:as suggested by its efficiencyin the foundry for cleaning sandfrom castings, the Paxson companyalso manufacturing foundry fac-ings, supplies and equipment. Thebrooms are inexpensive and dur-able. Wire Track-Cleaning Broom. THE VICTOR PORTABLE COM-BINATION METER. The desirability of being abli titell at a glance exactly the kilowattor horsepower output of a generator is well recognized by mostengineers, as it saves the troubleof making mental calculation re-quired in multiplying the volts[ft}: ^ pressure by the ampere output to obtain kilowatts and then dividingby 74i; to obtain the horsepower ofin electric circuit. The convenienceof being able to read the horsepower and kilowatts directly isshown by the favorable reception which was given to the Victoicombination switchboard power meter, introduced a year or soago. The combination meter, an illustration of which is presentedherewith, consists of two separate instruments, a voltmeter andammeter mounted within thesame case. The scales forreading the two instrumentsare so located that theneedles of the two instru-ments cross each other. Itis evident that no matter inwhat position the twoneedles may be,
